Woman dies after being hit by car in Glasgow
A 40-year-old woman has died after being struck by and trapped under a car in Glasgow.
Emergency services were called to Wellington Lane in the city centre at about 14:40 on Tuesday following a report of woman lying on the ground who had been struck by a car and became stuck under it. The woman's family has been informed.
The driver of the car was uninjured. Police inquiries found that the woman had been dropped off in Wellington Lane just before the collision.
A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course but officers are not treating the death as suspicious.
More than a dozen police vehicles along with fire and ambulance crews were sent to the scene.
A section of Wellington Street and Wellington Lane was closed following the incident, and the roads reopened shortly before 18:00.
Police erected a blue tarpaulin on Wellington Lane and a collision investigation unit was on site.
Woman 'trapped' under car
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said an ambulance, paramedic response unit and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene.
Det Sgt Sean McLoughlin of Police Scotland said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this incident.
"A family has lost a loved one and it's imperative we provide answers as to how that happened.
"If anyone has any information who has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch."
Area commander Andy Kenna from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted to reports of a person trapped under a vehicle on Wellington Lane.
"Operations control mobilised two fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the area, where firefighters assisted emergency partners.
"Sadly, one person passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with their family, friends, and the wider community at this difficult time."
He confirmed a joint investigation had been launched with Police Scotland.
