Woman dead after being 'hit and run over by garbage truck' in Hungry Jack's car park

A woman is dead after being knocked down and run over by a garbage truck in the car park of a fast food outlet in Adelaide's south in what police have described as "a very tragic incident".

The 45-year-old was struck by the truck while walking through the car park of a Hungry Jack's at the corner of Main South Road and Penneys Hill Road in Hackham about 9pm on Wednesday, police said.

SA Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Dickson says the woman fell to the ground after she was hit and the truck then ran her over.

"It's a very, very tragic incident," Mr Dickson said.

Police have spoken to the truck driver but they will not decide on any "subsequent prosecution" until investigations are complete, Mr Dickson added.
