Woman claims Uber driver kicked her out of car after rejection

A horrified woman has claimed to have been abandoned in the dark by an Uber driver after she rebuffed his advances.

The female passenger in her late 20s said she ordered the Uber from Wellington, in New Zealand, on Sunday.

She says her journey appeared to be like any other until, according to her, he lowered the tone of their small talk.

“I was sitting and happily chatting to my driver when he ever so casually said to me ‘So, would you like to party with me?’ In that situation it was clear to me that he was asking me to sleep with him,” the woman told online publication The Wireless.

She said she failed to immediately respond due to shock over the driver’s “super unprofessional” and “predatory” offer.

When she eventually rejected the approach, the woman says the man pulled up at the side of the road and told her to get out of the car.

In shock she jumped out, only to find herself a 20-minute walk from her home. Alone and in the dark, she made her way home.

The woman has since made a complaint to Uber who informed her the incident is under investigation.

An Uber spokesperson told Yahoo7 News the incident had been addressed with both parties but could not elaborate on the matter due to privacy reasons.

The spokesperson reiterated the company’s guidelines for drivers’ behaviour and that “sexual contact” was strictly prohibited from its drivers.

“Our community guidelines explain what behaviour is and isn’t appropriate when using the app and what can get you banned from Uber, which includes any sexual contact whatsoever,” the spokesperson said.
