Woman charged over sexual assault at train station

A 32-year-old woman from Williamstown has been charged after allegedly assaulting a schoolgirl at a train station in Melbourne last month.

The 17-year-old girl was on her way home from school about 2pm on Tuesday, May 1, when the woman allegedly approached her from behind at Newport station and sexually assaulted her as she walked down the ramp to the exit.

The 32-year-old woman presented herself to a police station on Tuesday afternoon.

She has been charged with sexual assault and bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 17 August.
