Woman, boy dead after car pushed in front of truck

A woman and a young boy have died after their car was rear-ended and pushed into the path of an oncoming truck in Victoria’s South Gippsland.

Police were told by witnesses the car was stationary on South Gippsland Highway, Korumburra, on Friday about 3.30pm when it was hit from behind by another vehicle.

“The impact caused the car to cross over to the other side of the road and collide with an oncoming truck,” police said.

“The driver of the car, believed to be a woman in her 30s and her passenger, believed to be a young boy, died at the scene.”

Police are speaking with the driver of the second vehicle – a 59-year-old man. He remains in custody.

The truck driver is also speaking with officers.

Dashcam footage of the crash is being sought.
