Woman and teenage boy killed in horror crash with road train

A woman and teenage boy have died after their car collided with a road train.

The pair were travelling on Barkly Highway, 26km west of Cloncurry, at around 6.35am on Monday when they hit the road train.

A woman, 44, and boy, 17, died at the scene, Queensland police said.

The driver of the road train was airlifted to the Mount Isa Base Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police did not specify how he was injured or what condition he is in.

The Forensic Crash Unit has begun an investigation.

The highway was shut down for several hours on Monday but has since been reopened.
