Woman and child found dead at Mt Keira lookout near Wollongong

A woman and a child have been confirmed dead after an incident at a Mt Keira lookout near Wollongong.

In a NSW Police statement, authorities said emergency services were called to the scene in the Illawarra region just after 1.50pm.

The incident related to a “concern for welfare”.

A woman and child were subsequently found dead below the lookout.

A crime scene has been established at the scene and officers from the Wollongong Police District are conducting an investigation.

Multiple police and ambulance services are on the scene and the helicopter is reportedly flying over the site, according to News Corp.

Police are not commenting on the nature of the deaths.

Access to the lookout has been closed to the public.
