A child and a woman have fled in terror after a drunk man armed with a knife broke into their home in rural NSW.
The alleged intruder, 23, had earlier been picked up by police in Inverell but was back on the streets and armed with a knife a short time later on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old woman was confronted by the armed man in the backyard after fleeing her house while the 12-year-old girl managed to escape over the fence.
NSW Police say the man then stole a car from the home's driveway but was arrested "after it hit a tree and became lodged on a raised garden bed".
The 23-year-old, who blew 0.193 when breath tested, was refused bail to appear at Inverell Local Court on Thursday.
