Woman accused of torturing little girl to create fake cancer fundraising page

A Queensland woman has been accused of creating a crowdfunding page based on false claims a little girl had cancer.

Police allege she tortured the five-year-old in order to commit the fraud.

They also claim the 36-year-old fraudulently received money from a fundraising page, businesses and community organisations.

Based on consultation with medical professionals, police say they will allege this cancer claim was false.

The woman received a number of donations under the false pretences, they said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

They said the woman appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court.
