Woman, 34, accused of raping boy, 15, 'as husband watched'

A couple have been arrested after a woman, who works for a school district, was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Kimberly Wellman-Rich, an employee of Louisiana's Lafayette Parish School System in the United States, allegedly had sex with a student, KATC reported. In 2018, she was "educational interpreter" at Edgar Martin Middle School.

She faces several charges relating to the alleged relationship with the juvenile, including felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behaviour with a juvenile.

Her husband, Jeffery Paul Rich, was charged as an accessory after the fact.

Youngsville Police said witnesses alleged Rich had "first-hand knowledge" of the sexual relationship his wife was having with the student.

The juvenile was a 15-year-old exchange student, who was staying at Wellman-Rich's home in Louisiana, according to local news reports.

Police investigation sparked by anonymous tip

Police began investigating after an anonymous tip was made to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services in January.

The age of consent in the state is 17 and the child was removed from Wellman-Rich's care last month following an investigation.

"As soon as we were able to start sustaining anything with the allegations he was immediately removed from the home by the school board as well as the company that does the placing of them," Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux told KATC.

The Acadiana Advocate reported the couple also gave the 15-year-old student marijuana and allowed him to smoke in their home and drink alcohol.
