Wolves sack head coach Gary O'Neil - as talks continue with potential successor
Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Gary O'Neil, having won just three games since March.
O'Neil has been in charge at the club for 16 months, which is in the Premier League's relegation zone.
Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira, the head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, is in talks with the club to replace O'Neil.
Wolves have won two league games this season and are on nine points from 16 games, putting them in 19th place and four points from safety.
They lost 2-1 at home to Ipswich on Saturday, after which Wolves player Rayan Ait Nouri was involved in a scuffle and pulled away from the pitch.
Owned by Chinese investment group Fosun International, Wolves have been in the Premier League since 2018.
They are looking for a fourth full-time boss since Nuno Espirito Santo departed in 2021. He was in charge when the team was promoted six years ago.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: "We're very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future."
O'Neil has criticised the club's owners for sanctioning the sale of many of its top players like Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves over the past three transfer windows, generating an alleged £140m in profit, and not investing enough quality back in the squad.
