Witnesses describe the moment man fell to his death from Queensland zipline

Witnesses who watched on in horror as a couple fell from a zipline in Queensland have spoken to media, describing the horrible moment that left the man dead and the woman seriously injured.

American couple Samantha Salyer and Joseph Maghe told 7News they had just finished the section of the zipline that takes people through the world renowned Daintree rainforest moments before the 53-year-old South Australian man and woman in her 40s plunged more than 10 metres.

"We got to the fifth platform and there were two couples behind us. There was a loud noise, we turned around, one of the lines had snapped and we saw them fall," the couple told 7NEWS.

"It shook the entire tree we were on. They hung there, then they both came down at the same time."

The Courier Mail reported the zipline attraction was run by Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours.

The 53 year old man died at the scene while the injured woman was flown by rescue helicopter to Cairns Base Hospital where she remained on Wednesday morning.

Detectives and Workplace Health and Safety will prepare reports for the coroner.
