Witnesses to the sexual assault of a child in a Victorian hotel 30 years ago are being asked to come forward.
Detectives have been told the attack happened in a communal shower area of a hotel on Main Street, Bairnsdale, in either 1989 or 1990.
It is believed an unknown man walked into the shower area and saw the then-nine- or 10-year-old girl and the male offender.
Patrons attempted to prevent the offender and girl from leaving the hotel but were unsuccessful.
Detectives are appealing for the unknown witness, anyone who can identify the witness, or anyone who was present at the hotel that day, to come forward.
