Wipeout contestant dies while filming TV show

A contestant on TV show Wipeout has reportedly died after completing an obstacle course.

The male contestant did the course on Wednesday (local time) but needed medical attention afterwards, sources told the New York Post.

The show was being filmed in California.

A defibrillator was used on him after he experienced chest pains and he was rushed to hospital, but died.

The show is run by Network TBS.

“We are devastated to have learned of his passing, and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,” a TBS spokesperson told the New York Post in a statement.

The show features contestants leaping across moving and stationary platforms above water.

Some parts of the obstacle course move – making it difficult for contestants to move through.

Before appearing on the show, people undergo medical assessments.

Filming for the show went on a planned Thanksgiving break and will continue after this stoppage, Variety reported.
