'How can you be this stupid?' Mum's anger after car window smashed to save 'dog'

A mother is reeling after her car window was smashed when passersby thought they spotted a dog left inside during soaring temperatures.

The disgruntled parent shared her grievance in an anonymous Facebook post after she was left footing the bill for a new window in the English seaside town of Weston-super-Mare.

It turns out the pet curled up in the backseat of the car was in fact her daughter’s plush toy.

“How can you be this stupid? Shame on you,” she wrote.

She shared an image of the toy – a Perfect Petzzz dog which is so realistic it includes a breathing setting when activated.

But as temperatures soared to over 38C last week in the UK, bystanders were obviously taking no chances.

Many sided with those who took action, saying they too would have smashed the window.

“To be honest I would have done the same thing, that toy dog looks very realistic,” one person wrote on the post.

Another reposted the mother’s complaint, tweaking it to ask: “How can I be so stupid?”

“The only mistake made was the car owner's,” somebody else added.

“You kind of asked for it,” one person said.

Days earlier police rescued a living dog from a vehicle in nearby Plymouth during the heatwave as the bewildered owners questioned officers’ actions.
