Wife watches husband die in Bali after 'drinking expired soft drink'

The wife of an Australian man who died suddenly after drinking two cans of expired soft drink has recalled the horror of watching her husband collapse in front of her.

Kevin James Nunn, 58, died on Wednesday in the Balinese home he shares with his wife Arianti Nunn and their three-year-old daughter.

Mr Nunn, a FIFO worker originally from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, drank two cans of expired tonic water that morning before complaining about feeling ill.

After going to lay down in their bed, Arianti told 7News her husband desperately struggled to breathe and requested to go to a clinic, but later changed his mind.

It is believed he collapsed and died in front of her not long after.

“I start to panic, I start to panic and I just screaming, I screaming,” she told the publication.

Police officers have since confiscated the cans of soft drink, which expired two months ago, to investigate if they caused his sudden death.

COVID-19 was ruled out as the cause after his body was taken to a hospital for testing.

Although police said Mr Nunn does not appear to have been deliberately poisoned, they reportedly want to perform an autopsy to rule it out.

Mr Trolley's body is removed from the hotel.

Denpasar Police Chief Jansen Avitus Panjaitan told 7News officers are awaiting forensic testing.

A heavy-hearted Arianti told friends of her husband’s death on Facebook.

In her post, she said she believed he died from a heart attack.

“With very heavy heart today 6 May 2020 my best partner, my husband, my love, are passed away in the home at 2pm, after cannot breathing properly (heart attack). Please spare some time for prayer over his soul,” she wrote.

She later posted another photo showing Mr Nunn in their backyard with the caption: “I love you so much my best partner.”

Mr Nunn’s death came just one day after another Australian, Christopher Steven Trolley, was found dead in his hotel room in Seminyak after failing to checkout.

The 47-year-old’s cause of death is unknown after COVID-19 was ruled out.
