'Practice makes perfect': Wife shares update on Daniel Andrews

The wife of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has shared an update on his condition after being out of action for several months.

Mr Andrews fractured a vertebra and at least five ribs when he fell on wooden stairs at a holiday rental on the Mornington Peninsula in March.

The premier had to take further leave from work after requiring surgery.

On Saturday, Mr Andrews’ wife Catherine shared an update on Twitter with a photo of the premier receiving a lockdown haircut.

“On the tools again,” she tweeted.

“Practice makes perfect. I love this one. Getting better every day.”

Questions over premier's return

The photo had people questioning if Mr Andrews’ haircut might be a sign he is ready to return to full duties.

“Not until he gets the all clear from his medical team,” she tweeted.

One woman told Ms Andrews she would love to see her husband “rock a mullet”.

“It’s a hard no from me,” Ms Andrews tweeted in her response.

Acting Premier James Merlino was asked about the photo on Sunday.

"He is recovering well," Mr Merlino said.

"It was good to see that image of Dan getting a haircut. We will see him back on deck subject to his doctor's advice."

Mr Merlino added he believes Mr Andrews will return to work later this month.

Mr Andrews told reporters in March after his fall he fell hard on his back and “hit the steps hard directly below the shoulder blades”.

"I narrowly avoided permanent damage to my spinal cord,” he said.

"One specialist said to Cath and I last week, 'You narrowly avoided a life-changing injury, you should buy a Tattslotto ticket, you are very lucky to be here in one piece'."

He added the injury requires him to wear a back brace even while sleeping.

The premier was admitted to intensive care. Deputy Premier James Merlino has been filling in as Acting Premier while Mr Andrews recovers.

Mr Andrews suggested earlier this week he would to work in July however failed to provide a date.
