Pregnant woman's selfless dying words to husband after luxury resort stabbing

Karen Turner begged her husband, Matthew, to check on their toddler son moments before she collapsed and died after being stabbed while on holiday.

Two intruders set on the sleeping couple in a chalet at the Hluleka Nature Reserve in South Africa in the early hours of Tuesday morning (local time), The Sun reported.

Mr Turner was woken to being stabbed in the stomach and his wife, who was three months’ pregnant at the time, yelling out in agony.

Ms Turner’s brother, Ian Crouch, said his brother-in-law managed to push the attacker off and chase after the men, but they escaped by jumping off a balcony.

His wife was behind him and asked he check on their 23-month old son, Hayden, but when he turned around, she had collapsed to the floor, Mr Crouch said.

“Matthew said he chased after them and Karen was behind him. He remembers her saying to him to check on Hayden,” he told South African news outlet The Witness.

The couple were staying at the resort on their way to a wedding and had taken an extra week off to spend some quality family time together.

Ms Turner, 31, was a primary school teacher in Underberg, a town about three hours from Durban – a coastal city in eastern South Africa.

Mr Turner was kept in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery on his stab wounds, but has since been released.

The school teacher and her husband, Matthew, had just celebrated her 31st birthday. The couple is pictured.

His son was staying with Mr Crouch while he recovered from his injuries, with a funeral and cremation planned for Ms Turner on Friday.

There has yet to be any arrests made in relation to the incident.

Police and sniffer dogs have continued to investigate the stabbing murder.

Police spokesperson Captain Dineo Koena said neighbours heard “shouting and a struggle”, News 24 reported.

One neighbour went to check on the couple and found Ms Turner’s body and Mr Turner badly injured.

The couple’s two-year-old son was uninjured and located in his cot.
