Aussies urged to check their old Lotto tickets

Aussies are being urged to check their old Lotto tickets as mystery surrounds 10 unclaimed prizes.

The Lott says there are unclaimed wins across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria worth almost $10 million.

In Queensland there are six unclaimed prizes worth more than $6.38 million, three in NSW worth more than $1.85m and one in Victoria worth more than $1m.

The winners remain a mystery as they were not registered to a players card and The Lott is unable to identify them.

One unclaimed ticket bought in Queensland is for a $2m prize.

“Aussies are being urged to remain vigilant for any old lottery tickets they might find around the home or car this Easter,” The Lott said in a statement.

The Lott spokeswoman Lauren Cooney said from old shopping bags and fridge doors to car gloveboxes and sock drawers, Australians sometimes stored winning tickets in odd places.

“We’ve had past winners come forward after finding an old ticket in the back of a drawer, in the central console of their car, and at the bottom of their handbag,” she said.

“Some players have also told us they keep tickets in their underwear drawer for safe keeping.”

Two of the unclaimed prizes were won in 2014, one in 2015, two in 2016, one in 2017 and four in 2018.

Prizes in Queensland can go unclaimed for seven years and six years in NSW.

Victorians only have six months to claim their prize from Tatts, but after that have to claim it from the Victorian State Revenue Office.

“The biggest and oldest unclaimed prize is a $2 million win from January 2014. This winning ticket for Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3315 was purchased at NewsExtra DFO in Cairns,” Ms Cooney said.

Those feeling lucky can check their old tickets at a licenced lottery outlet or by visiting The Lott website.

Winners should phone The Lott as soon as possible on 131 868 to claim their prize.
