Whitehouse wins Rhode Island Senate race
Incumbent Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D) is projected to win his reelection bid against Republican state Rep. Patricia Morgan in Rhode Island.
An aggregate of polling from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ had rated the race as safe for the Democrat ahead of the Tuesday contest.
Whitehouse has served as senator of the Ocean State since 2007, where he has advocated for progressive causes and been outspoken about climate change and the opioid crisis.
This cycle, he received endorsements from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Rhode Island AFL-CIO and Everytown Gun Safety, among others.
In 1994, Whitehouse was appointed by then-President Clinton as U.S. attorney for Rhode Island. From 1999 to 2003, he served as Rhode Island’s attorney general.
