What's open, what's closed: Winnipeg's holiday hours for 2024
As this year comes to an end with another one soon here, here's what's open and what's closed in Winnipeg for 2024's seasonal holidays.
City services and transit
All City of Winnipeg civic offices will close at noon on Christmas Eve and be closed all day on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's day.
The Brady Road landfill and 4R depot will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The landfill is open 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Boxing Day, and the 4R Depot is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Pacific and Panet Road 4R depots will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
All city arenas are closed Dec. 25 and reopen on Jan. 2, unless otherwise indicated. Ab McDonald Arena will be open over the winter break.
Pools will close at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, except for Transcona Kinsmen Centennial Pool, which will be closed all day. All pools are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. All pools will close at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Malls and shopping
All major shopping malls will be closed for Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
CF Polo Park shopping centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Boxing Day.
St. Vital Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Kildonan Place will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m on Christmas Eve. It opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Garden City shopping centre will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve. It will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Grant Park Shopping Centre is open 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Outlet Collection Winnipeg opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. It's open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Boxing Day. It's Jan. 1 hours were not yet available at the time of publication.
Portage Place is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Boxing Day.
Most grocery stores will also be closed Christmas Day, while many will also close early on Christmas Eve.
Things to do
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
The Manitoba Museum is also closed Dec. 24 and 25. It will open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
The Manitoba Children's Museum is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It will be open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It opens on Boxing Day and New Year's Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day.
FortWhyte Alive will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 31 and closed on Christmas Day.
Liquor stores
All Liquor Marts will be closing at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and will be closed for Christmas Day. Most will reopen from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Boxing Day.
Shoppers should call private beer vendors and wine stores directly for holiday operating hours.
