What Sabrina the Teenage Witch's boyfriend Harvey looks like now
In the late nineties and early naughties, Sabrina The Teenage Witch was a favourite pastime, catching up with 16 year old Sabrina Spellman as she navigated adolescence while learning to harness magical powers.
Her crush turned boyfriend Harvey Kinkle epitomised what we all wanted in a boyfriend back then.
He was good looking, popular, on the football team and despite not being very smart, he was sweet and in the end, it turned out he was Sabrina's soul mate.
Actor Nate Richert was 18 when he started playing 16-year-old Harvey.
"It was absolutely my dream job.
"Every guest star we ever had on that show was everyone I watched growing up," Nate revealed earlier this year.
"I was a kid in a candy store," he added.
"I was so very lucky to be included in that amazing spectacle.
"I’ve always been predominantly a comedic actor and everything about that show was funny and fun exactly what I grew up dreaming about doing."
He also understood the appeal of Harvey being sweet and somewhat naive, with Sabrina often coming to his rescue in a gender role reversal that wasn't as common back when.
"I loved being the damsel in distress," he told Romper in 2018.
"With the magic, there were so many predicaments that you could be put in, that really play that role reversal, which — today it's pretty standard, I hope.
"To have the strong, female lead who has to rescue the boy in distress.
"That was a big thing at the time," he added.
However after the series finished in 2003, Nate decided to step away from acting.
"Anxiety and subsequent depression were my major game stoppers," Nate revealed on Twitter.
"Took a decade to learn how to cope and overcome. Back then, all I knew was something was wrong with me, that I was broken and unworthy; all that fantastic BS anxiety likes to ruin your life with. But it didn’t."
So Nate turned to the other side of the camera and got involved in production.
"There are so many moving parts to even the smallest production it always fascinated me," Nate revealed.
"Out of that curiosity I developed a drive to learn about every aspect.
"At this point, I’ve developed, written, produced, directed, operated camera and sound, I edit, I’ve built sets, I’ve worked in locations, etc.
"I like to have as much firsthand knowledge as possible so, when I produce, I have a very firm grasp on what everyone needs and really create that family environment."
He even pursued a music career.
"There’s a saying I learned as an actor: hurry up and wait," he told Mannequin about how he got started in music.
"Alone in your trailer with a broken tv, a notepad, a pencil, and a Baby Taylor guitar.
"Sometimes nine hours because they changed the schedule the night before and forgot to tell you not to come in.
"This is prime time to write songs and sketches and do sit-ups and take naps and call your mother," he said.
"This is where I first started trying out my voice more and writing songs, in isolation," he added.
"I love when people hear my tunes and ask who wrote them because they’re sure it’s an old standard or something.
"I like to write old songs because that is the music I am drawn to and listen to daily."
Like many in the entertainment industry, Nate has also had to take whatever work he could get at times, just to pay the bills.
"I’m currently a maintenance man, a janitor, a carpenter, and do whatever random jobs I can get to pay the bills," he revealed in 2018, but added that he considered himself: "extremely lucky" as "Actors so very rarely have job security or consistent work, quality healthcare, a reasonable retirement."
And while at 44, he obviously looks different from his time on the show, he says he still get's recognised as Harvey.
"It blows my mind but I do still get recognised from Sabrina; probably a couple times a week," he admits.
"I had a beard, hat, and sunglasses at a drive-through window of a fast food joint, somewhere in the middle of the country on a road trip, and the teller at the window says, ‘Oh my God, you’re Harvey!’ Go figure."
