Australians have been left fuming after Westpac’s app and website crashed on Monday morning, leaving customers unable to access their funds.

In a statement at 10am AEST, the major bank said it was experiencing “issues with Westpac Live Online and Mobile Banking” and was working to find a solution.

Users have been unable to log in to online banking, receiving either a page that doesn’t load or blockages when trying to view their balance.

However, the issues continued into the morning and early afternoon, leaving customers frustrated and desperate.

“This is disgustingly inconvenient. I’m so embarrassed I couldn’t pay for a doctors appointment this morning. I went to the trouble of visiting a branch,” one person said on Facebook.

“They couldn’t do anything. Lift your bloody game Westpac!”

Another person living in Victoria criticised the bank after she was unable to access her accounts.

“As if life in Victoria isn’t bad enough right now. Can’t even get into our bank accounts. Does it ever end.”

Others complained of being unable to purchase lunch, pay bills or check their balance.

Outage tracker Down Detector first noted an uptick in complaints about Westpac just after 9am this morning with the outage causing problems across the country.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and are working hard to restore these services as soon as possible,” a Westpac spokesperson said.

“Our branch and ATM services remain available for customers. While we are experiencing longer than usual wait times, customers can also contact us for telephone banking support.”
