Weekend weather: Brisbane, Melbourne set for rain as Sydney warms up

Melbourne and Brisbane are due for wet weekends while Sydney warms up after a chilly start to the week.

Southeast Queensland has a 95 per cent chance of rain on Friday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, while Melbourne has a 100 per cent chance on Saturday.

Sydney weather forecast

Wednesday reached a top of 14.9 degrees in Sydney - almost 8 degrees lower than the 24 hours prior.

Sydney reached a top of 19.4 on Thursday at about 1.30pm but the weekend will be warmer with tops of 21 and 24 on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Friday: 12-20 degrees, partly cloudy

  • Saturday: 10-21, partly cloudy

  • Sunday: 11-24, partly cloudy

Canberra weather forecast

Conditions in Canberra over the weekend will be largely clear except for some slight showers on Sunday.

  • Friday: 3-17, cloud clearing

  • Saturday: 3-18, mostly sunny

  • Sunday: 7-17, shower or two 0-3mm

Melbourne weather forecast

Melbourne is forecast for some fog early Friday morning before the rain arrives on Saturday.

Temperatures are set to drop from Thursday through to Friday and across the weekend too from a top of 20 to about 17.

Friday is set to be windy too with gusts of 30-45km/h

  • Friday: 10-20, cloud increasing and windy

  • Saturday: 13-17, rain periods 10-20mm

  • Sunday: 11-16, rain easing 2-8mm

Brisbane weather forecast

Brisbane is due for a wet start to the weekend before clearing on Sunday.

Friday could see the CBD drenched with up to 40mm forecast. Saturday’s showers will be far less intense though with up to 10mm predicted to fall.

Expect maximum temperatures of about 21-24 across the weekend.

  • Saturday: 13-21, showers 5-10mm

Adelaide weather forecast

Temperatures in Adelaide are set to drop from a top of 26 expected on Friday to 17 on Sunday.

Saturday will bring some light showers with up to 10mm of rain forecast.

  • Friday: 15-26, partly cloudy

  • Saturday: 15-21, showers increasing 6-10mm

  • Sunday: 11-17, cloud clearing

Perth weather forecast

Conditions for Perth across the weekend are mostly sunny with Friday morning bringing some patches of fog in the hills.

  • Friday: 7-19, partly cloudy

  • Saturday: 7-21, sunny

  • Sunday: 9-24, sunny

Tasmania weather forecast

Hobart residents will need to break out the umbrella sporadically over the weekend.

While no heavy showers are forecast, light rain is predicted to fall late on Friday before easing Saturday, however Sunday will bring some late rain too.

Launceston’s also in for showers with up to 3mm Friday, 15mm Saturday and 1mm on Sunday.

Expect tops between 15-17 from Friday onwards.

  • Friday: 6-19, rain developing late 1-3mm

  • Saturday: 7-13, rain easing 3-6mm

  • Sunday: 5-16, showers developing 1-2mm

Darwin weather forecast

Residents in Darwin are due for some hot days right across the weekend with tops in the mid-30s.

  • Friday: 23-35, sunny

  • Saturday: 22-34, sunny

  • Sunday: 23-33, sunny

Alice Springs is also due for a toasty few days with similar temperatures.
