Accused sex-trafficking billionaire Jeffrey Epstein 'found injured in jail cell'

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein has reportedly been injured in prison while being held on federal sex-trafficking charges.

NBC News reports Epstein was found semi conscious in his cell in the foetal position with marks on his neck.

Sources told the network the injuries may have been caused by a suicide attempt, and have also suggested he may have staged the incident in order to be transferred to a different facility.

Epstein was found by guards on the floor of the cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre on Wednesday, media reported.

Some reported that his face appeared blue.

The billionaire financier was taken to hospital, the New York Post reported, but it was unclear where he was taken or what his condition was.

The 66-year-old Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges on July 6. He has pleaded not guilty.

A federal judge denied bail on the charges involving underage girls.

The decision came last week after prosecutors argued Epstein should remain behind bars in New York City because he had the means to flee and was a danger to the public.

The charges, concerning alleged misconduct from at least 2002 to 2005, were announced more than a decade after Epstein pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges in Florida.
