Water restrictions lifted in Waterloo region after pipe repair finishes ahead of schedule
The water is flowing again after repair work on a pipe that supplies 20 per cent of Waterloo region's drinking water was finished ahead of schedule.
Residents in the Region of Waterloo were asked to reduce water usage starting Monday as a pipe located at the Mannheim water treatment plan needed to be fixed.
Mari MacNeil, the director of water and wastewater services for the region, said the water needed to be shut down to make an urgent repair to a coupling along the pipe.
"We successfully completed the watermain repair ahead of schedule, which has allowed us to lift water restrictions," said MacNeil in a release sent out Thursday.
"We really want to thank everyone in Waterloo Region who stepped up and reduced their water use. It truly made a positive impact on our supply."
Crews were working around the clock since Monday to make the repair. In the meantime residents were asked to lower their non-essential water usage like watering lawns and washing their vehicles. As well they were encouraged to take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing teeth.
The work was originally scheduled to last until Sunday.
