WATCH: Two snakes locked in battle fighting over female python

A Queensland homeowner captured skin-crawling footage of two male pythons locked in a power struggle, wrestling above her veranda apparently over a female snake.

Gillian Bradley, from Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast, spotted the pair locked in battle on Saturday morning when she went to check it was safe for her kitten to go out.

She quickly learned it was best she kept the feline inside, but grabbed her phone to begin recording the intense tussle.

Footage shows the serpents – a smaller one wrapped around the larger one – hanging from her roof as they tried desperately to overpower one another.

The battle lasted about 10 minutes, before the two snakes eventually fell three storeys, but continued to fight as they plummeted.

Ms Bradley said she watched as the pair continued their duel on the ground before the smaller of the two slid off into the bush.

“They hit the ground and kept going, they weren’t phased at all,” she told the Courier Mail.

“Then the smaller snake went down the paddock and the larger snake climbed back up onto the veranda.”

Snake Catcher Noosa’s Luke Huntley confirmed the pair were males, most likely fighting over a female snake assumably somewhere on the property.

“When male pythons fight, they use the top third of their body, trying to hit each other.”

It appears the expert’s hunch was correct, as Ms Bradley found the larger snake mating with the a female python the following morning.

A snake catcher was called to relocate the frisky pair.
