WATCH: Man saves alligator from python in amazing video

A snake trapper in the US has rescued an alligator from an unpleasant end as a three-metre long snake tried to crush it to death.

In footage posted to Mike Kimmel’s personal Facebook page, he can be seen carefully unwrapping the huge snake from the body of the alligator, pulling it away with a “there you go, buddy”.

He then carefully carries the snake away onto grassland, where he bags it up.

The video has since gone viral and has been viewed 61,000 times and has more than 600 shares.

“You are one brave soul,” one woman commented on the video.

“Well done! Watching that thing unwrap the gator and the gator then take off was like a happy ending in a book,” wrote another.

Nicknamed “the Python Cowboy”, Kimmel is legally employed by Florida state to destroy pythons in the Everglades national park as their numbers soar and pose a threat to alligators native to the area.

“When I see what the pythons have done to the Everglades, it’s something I can’t stand by and watch,” Kimmel told FoxNews.

“The native wildlife we have have never dealt with a cryptic predator like the python. They don’t have the instincts or defence mechanism for it.”
