Watch live: White House holds press briefing as Biden foreign policy in the spotlight

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief the press Thursday afternoon following the return of President Biden, who turned 82 this week, from a six-day trip to South America.

Biden met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the last time while in Peru for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and, over the weekend, gave a historic speech on climate change with the backdrop of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. With two months left until he leaves the White House, the president is looking to cement his legacy.

Global tensions have also been high amid the ongoing wars in the Middle East and eastern Europe. The administration earlier this week lifted restrictions that prevented Ukraine from using U.S.-made long-range missiles inside Russia. It also comes as the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and a Hamas leader, alleging war crimes.

The briefing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST.
