WATCH: Jumping dolphin collides mid-air with stand-up paddle boarder

An incredible encounter between a dolphin and a stand-up paddle boarder has been caught on camera in WA’s south west.

Remarkable footage from a nearby surfer shows Andrew Hill paddling towards a pod of dolphins surfing a wave when one jumps out of the water and knocks him off his board at Melaleuca Beach near Gracetown.

The 54-year-old believes the dolphins were herding fish.

“Eight or nine of them decided to catch that wave and surf straight at me, which has happened lots of times in the past to me,” he told 7 News.

“One of them decided to jump out of the water and took me out quite well in a fairly legal hip and shoulder, and hat off to him – he collected me quite well.”

It happened in the same area where two surfers were attacked by sharks last week.
