Watch: Cassidy discusses vote to advance RFK Jr.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) explained his vote to advance Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to serve as Health and Human Services secretary on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Cassidy cast the key vote earlier during a Senate Finance Committee hearing. The nomination will now soon be considered by the full Senate.

The Louisiana Republican, a physician who voted to convict President Trump in his 2021 impeachment trial, had publicly fretted over his vote, describing it as difficult.

In a statement after the vote, Cassidy said he had “intense conversations” with Kennedy over the weekend and even this morning and said he also spoke with Vice President Vance.

“With the serious commitments I’ve received from the administration and the opportunity to make progress on the issues we agree on like healthy foods and a pro-American agenda, I will vote yes,” Cassidy said.
