WATCH: Amazing video captures shark circling whale carcass

Terrifying drone footage has captured a shark circling a dead whale off the South Australian coast.

The whale has washed up on the beach at the Lower Eyre Peninsula.

The footage, captured by 7News Melbourne, shows the shark swimming close to the shore.

This comes just days after authorities warned a whale carcass near Port Lincoln could attract great white sharks.

Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula parks and sustainable landscapes manager Tim Hall said they were the same matter.

The Department for Environment and Water is monitoring the situation.

Mr Hall said in a statement the whale was discovered on Friday on the beach at Frenchman’s, Eyre Peninsula, about 70 kilometres northwest of Port Lincoln.

The carcass is that of a juvenile humpback whale, with a tail about seven metres long.

“The whale is situated in a relatively remote area, so it may be possible to let nature take its course,” Mr Hall said.

“We are advising the community that they need to take care and be aware that sharks may be attracted to the area.

“Community safety is important, and we are advising people to stay up high on the beach, well away from the ocean, if they are coming to this area.”
