Warning for pet owners after 'disgusting' find on popular coastal walk

Dog owners are being urged to keep a close eye on their pets after a disturbing discovery was made on Sydney’s iconic Bondi to Coogee Coastal walk.

A series of treats with fish hooks threaded through them were spotted between Coogee and Ivor Rowe pool on Friday morning.

Randwick City Council said they have been made aware of the incident and have warned any pet owners walking along the popular track to keep their eyes peeled.

A council spokesperson told Yahoo7 News that local residents discovered the treats and raised the alarm before disposing of them.

They said their rangers had searched the area around Alexandria Parade and would now be scouring the rest of the coastal walk for any further contaminated treats had been.

The matter has also been reported to NSW Police, who are investigating.

Concerned local residents condemned the behaviour in a community Facebook group, describing the culprit’s actions as “reckless and reprehensible”.

“This is disgusting and seems to happen all around the eastern suburbs,” one person wrote.
