Warning over potentially deadly 'Adidas' shaped MDMA
Revellers have been urged to avoid MDMA pills shaped like the Adidas logo circulating across NSW after it was found they contained higher than average doses.
The little blue tablets, as well as clear and green and white capsules also spotted across the state, enclose two to three times the common dose of ecstasy, according to the New South Wales Health Department.
“While consumption of one MDMA tablet/capsule alone can kill, the risk of toxicity is greatly increased if multiple MDMA tablets or capsules are consumed, or if MDMA is consumed in combination with other stimulant substances such as methamphetamine or cocaine,” Professor Andrew Dawson, Clinical Director of the NSW Poisons Information Centre, warned on Friday.
“Hot weather will also increase the dangers, as MDMA causes the body to dangerously overheat, potentially leading to organ failure, loss of consciousness and death.”
The blue pills contain 145mg, while the capsules contain an average of 130mg.
Health officials urged anyone who has purchased the drugs to throw them out in amnesty bins.
The NSW government recently started placing amnesty bins at music festival across the state so punters could ditch their drugs without fear of prosecution.
Last month, New Year’s Eve revellers were warned of a new strand of MDMA shaped like a LEGO block containing triple the common dose.
The seized LEGO-shaped MDMA had an average dose of 150mg.
