'Probably saved his life': P-plate driver loses licence just hours after receiving it

A P-plate driver has lost his licence for allegedly speeding just hours after getting it.

The 20-year-old P-plater was speeding along Greta Road about 11pm on Wednesday, police say.

Wangaratta Highway Patrol officers spotted the driver going 142km/h in a 100km/h zone.

When police pulled the driver over, it was discovered the 20-year-old man had just received his license that afternoon.

The man, from Wangaratta, lost his license for six months and received an infringement notice for $702.

Victoria Police posted about the incident on their Facebook page.

“Probably saved his life, if not today, sometime in the future. I hope a lesson has been learnt,” one person wrote underneath the post.

Earlier this year, one P-plater in NSW copped a hefty $2435 and a loss of license for six months when police caught him doing 161km/h in a 110km/h zone.

In NSW, P-plate drivers are limited to 100km/h.

During another incident, one P-plate driver in Victoria had a bizarre reason for doing 170km/h, with a smashed windscreen and two bald tyres.

When Victoria Police apprehended this driver on Western Ring Road in Moonee Valley, he told police he was “busting for poo”.
