Walking Dead star and former fire sergeant Dango Nguyen has died of cancer at age 48.
Mr Nguyen served as a fireman for over 20 years, he then left the Athens-Clarke County fire department in Georgia to pursue a career as an actor.
He also goes by “Dango Nu Yen” professionally.
The Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services payed tribute to Mr Nguyen on Facebook, confirming he had passed away after fight a “hard-fought battle with cancer”.
“Dango was a sergeant with our department when he left to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and other interests,” the fire department said.
“But, once you're a firefighter, you're always part of our family. And Dango was a very well known member of our family.”
“ He will always be remembered for his physical and mental strength. He was an aggressive and tenacious firefighter and first responder. He was also an excellent fire officer.
“He touched many lives. We will all remember his quick wit, high energy, and unwavering determination. We all aspire to be ‘Dango Strong’.”
His first credit as an actor was in 2011, where he played an “unnamed doctor” on Meet the Browns. Since then he appeared in The Walking Dead as a guard for seven episodes from 2012 - 2013.
Mr Nguyen then went to to star in TV shows such as Banshee and The Originals. Since 2015, he has 10 stunt credits to his name, appearing again on The Walking Dead as a stunt performer in 2013 and an episode of NCIS: New Orleans.
According to an Instagram post, made on June 18, Mr Nguyen had been married to his wife Michelle for two years.
Mr Nguyen made several updates regarding his cancer on Instagram.
