Mother killed in her own driveway trying to stop car thief
A mother has been killed in front of her two adult children after she was allegedly run over in her own driveway while trying to stop an accused car thief from stealing her vehicle.
Early investigations suggest the Mirrabooka woman saw a man trying to get into her vehicle just before 10am on Friday.
Marija Karovska, aged in her 50s, tried to stop the suspected carjacker, but was run over in her driveway amid the chaos.
The tragic incident unfolded in full view of the victim's two adult children.
It's understood Mrs Karovska's daughter was about to go to work, while her son had been asleep but awoke from the commotion and ran out to help.
As they tried to stop the alleged car thief, the victim went behind the vehicle and was allegedly run over three times.
She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries, but could not be saved.
Police say the man fled on foot, running through a nearby park.
Officers swarmed the area, jumping fences in neighbouring properties. He was eventually caught and arrested in nearby Koondoola, following a two-hour manhunt across Perth’s northern suburbs.
Homicide squad detectives questioned him on Friday evening, while Mrs Karovska's vehicle remains outside the home.
