West Australian Treasurer Ben Wyatt says the state is "on the right track" after the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.7 per cent for January.
"Consistent good news on the WA jobs front. Importantly, 9000 fewer Western Australians underemployed. More to do but on the right track," he tweeted on Thursday.
Mr Wyatt later told AAP there had been clear improvement since Labor was elected to government in March last year.
"Month-to-month figures can be volatile so I look at those with some caution," he said.
"But it is tremendous to see that the figures, when compared with 12 months ago, are a clear improvement."
Premier Mark McGowan told parliament his government was getting on with creating jobs and supporting the WA workforce.
"Business is responding well to the election of this government," he said.
