Dog called Buster in recovery after callous hit and run driver runs over him - twice
A 14 year old dog called Buster is recovering after the callous actions of a driver left the dog for dead.
Buster was hit by a car on Tuesday morning in Perth, but then, unbelievably, the driver backed up the car to hit him again.
He underwent emergency surgery after the shocking incident but may still lose a paw.
"They said he may need a metal plate inserted into his leg, but until we understand the extent of his injuries we're not going to know," Dogs Behind Bars Rescue co-founder Claire Bingham said.
Dogs Behind Bars Rescue is an organisation that takes on the dogs no one else sees a future for.
"Buster's 14, so it's not possible to re-home him at that age, so he's been in care with us since then," Ms Bingham said.
Buster was out for a walk with his carer in Carlisle when he slipped off his leash and ran out onto the road, where he was hit by a white 4WD ute.
Ms Bingham says the driver who hit Buster struck him and then backed up to hit him again.
"The worrying thing is that they actually left the scene when really they should have helped," Ms Bingham said.
Now Dogs Behind Bars Rescue will be left with a hefty vet bill and plan to launch a Go Fund Me page for Buster's expenses.
"We're estimating around $2000 to $3000 at the moment, however that could increase," Ms Bingham said.
