Dog found with severe burns all over body in Western Australia dies

Jack, the dog who was rescued in Geraldton after suffering horrific burns, has succumbed to his injuries and died.

The dog was discovered on Tuesday with severe burns to his body, including skin that was blistered and peeling on his belly, legs, face, paw and genitals.

Infection had already started to set in by the time the dog was found and his organs had begun to shut down.

Local vets advised that the only option was to euthanase the dog.

RSPCA WA Chief Inspector Amanda Swift said they were "meticulously" following a number of leads in an effort to find out what had happened to Jack.

The dog was known in the local community for frequently straying from his "devastated" owner's home.

"It's quite a small and tight-knit community here and someone is bound to have seen something," Inspector Swift said.

"We're asking people to review their home security video, for businesses to look at their CCTV, even dash cam footage may help.

"We just want to get justice for this poor dog, who suffered so much in his final hours."

The RSPCA has asked anyone with information to call the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 287 3589.
