'It was a pleasure growing up with you': Tributes flow after WA teenager dies from meningococcal disease

A 19-year-old from Albany in Western Australia has died in Tasmania after contracting meningococcal disease.

Lloyd Dunham had travelled to Tasmania to help his sister move for a new job when he suddenly fell very ill.

His sister Lucy told Seven News that Lloyd had been in Tasmania for a week and was due to return home on Saturday.

Family is planning a memorial for Lloyd back in Albany.

The WA health department says Lloyd is the second West Australian to die of meningococcal disease this year.

Meningococcal disease is an acute bacterial infection that can cause death within hours if not recognised and treated in time.

Over the weekend friends posted touching tributes to the 19-year-old on social media.

"Words can't even get close to express the pain I'm feeling," one friend wrote on Facebook.

"I just want to wake up and it all be a bad dream.

"It was an absolute pleasure growing up with you and growing into men together."
