Passenger kicked off plane for being 'too drunk to fly'

A man was escorted off a Virgin flight from Port Hedland on Sunday night because he was allegedly too drunk to fly.

The plane was taxiing to the runway when the intoxicated man allegedly refused to follow instructions from the flight crew, including putting on his seat beat.

He was filmed swearing and arguing with staff and passengers aboard Virgin flight VA1846 to Perth.

Ground staff boarded the plane and asked the passenger to leave, but he refused.

"That's when everyone around him got a little bit aggressive and he got aggressive back," a passenger, Jay, told Seven News.

Police attended and issued the man with a move-on notice but no charges were laid.

The Virgin flight landed in Perth an hour later than scheduled.

Port Hedland officer-in-charge Sgt. Jayd Morawski said it was a timely reminder that drunkenness would not be tolerated on flights.

“We have formed a fantastic relationship with the Port Hedland International Airport locally and we have spoken with their CEO and done training with their staff in relation to exactly this style of event and in my view the system worked," he told The West Australian.

"They didn’t take off and it was dealt with at its first instance without creating any further dramas."
