Little Perth girl suffers brain injury after falling from balcony in Macedonia
A five-year-old Perth girl has had to have emergency surgery after falling during a holiday - but now the family says they can't afford to bring her back home.
Little Vanessa has had to have life-saving surgery in Macedonia after falling from a third storey balcony.
For the past month Vanessa has been on holiday with her father Robert in Macedonia.
The girl, who has severe ADHD and was visiting her grandparents, accidentally fell from the balcony at their house.
She underwent a six-hour operation, but since then has had two seizures and developed a brain infection.
The accident happened two days before the family was due to come home.
Her mother, Rachel, was in Perth at the time, but flew straight to Macedonia as soon as she heard what happened.
It was an agonising trip for Rachel and her two other children, who are thirteen and seven months.
The family says they desperately need help to get Vanessa home.
"We'd be grateful for anything that anyone can do for us at this time," Rachel said.
"We don't know how we're going to get her home at this stage."
The family did not have travel insurance and say Vanessa's surgery cost thousands.
