Boy, 12, mauled in dog attack - but mum is open to letting the dog live
The mother of a 12-year-old boy who was attacked by a bull-mastiff cross in Perth says she is open to letting the dog live.
The boy is in a stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital with injuries to his face and body after being attacked at a home in Kenwick.
The boy and his mother were visiting the home when the attack occurred.
The dog's owner, Katrina Haywood, said her two-year-old pet was just being protective.
She also received injuries after she intervened to get the dog, called Snowy, away from the boy.
Ms Haywood is refusing to put the dog down, although she said she accepted Snowy, who has been impounded, could not return home.
The boy's mother is believed to be open to the idea of letting the dog live on a farm.
"She doesn't mind, she said, 'you want to put him on a farm? Go for it'," Ms Haywood told Seven News Online.
Gosnells Council says the decision could ultimately be referred to the magistrate's court.
The incident comes just two weeks after Southern River woman Sue Lopicich, 58, was attacked and killed by a bull mastiff, which was later seized by rangers and euthanised.
