'WA's most wanted man' under arrest
Police have arrested accused gunman Shawn Adam Newton after more than two weeks on the run in Western Australia.
The 42-year-old was arrested in the northern Perth suburb of Mullaloo on Monday afternoon after police issued a third public appeal to help locate him.
“Police have arrested Shawn Newton a short time ago,” a police spokesperson said.
“He was arrested without incident.”
Mr Newton is wanted for questioning in relation to an armed robbery earlier this month.
He is also wanted for questioning in relation to the death of 35-year-old Rebecca Jane Gascoigne, whose body was found in the boot of a car on the Mitchell Freeway on July 15.
There were fears on Monday morning that Mr Newton, who has been on the run for more than two weeks, had altered his appearance by wearing a wig.
Police are investigating whether he is linked to an armed robbery at McDonalds on Marmion Avenue in Duncraig on Sunday night.
Mr Newton is currently in custody and will be interviewed at the police headquarters in Northbridge.
His arrest comes less than a week after his brother made an emotional plea for Newton to hand himself in.
