The bashing was so bad that doctors had to remove a piece of Mr Tapper's skull.

Mr Darroch was handed six years behind bars but will be eligible for release in 2020, a punishment his victim's family says does not fit the crime.

"Ross has got a life sentence and what's he got? He's got everything - he's got a proper bed, he gets fed everyday, all the rest of it," Mr Tapper's mother Edna said outside court.
