'Heart failure stuff': Video captures child running out in front of car

Dashcam footage shows how a quick-thinking motorist saved a West Australian child from potentially being hit by his car, while running onto a road without looking.

The video, recorded about midday on Wednesday, shows a youngster running onto Ocean Drive in Bunbury, with a male adult walking a few metres behind.

In a spilt second, the child appears almost out of nowhere, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes. The vehicle comes to an abrupt stop only a few metres from the child, while the adult appears oblivious to the potential danger.

The driver's daughter shared the clip on social media yesterday to highlight how quickly accidents can happen, and the need to watch youngsters while crossing the road.

"This is why you hold a childs hand near a road, and how easy it is for tragic accident to happen!!" Vicki Murphy wrote in the caption accompanying the video.

Ms Murphy said she had a few words with the man who was walking behind the child at the time, but he “looked at us like we were at fault!”.
