Meet the Perth woman who commutes four hours every day
Meet the working Perth mum who drives for four hours every day to get to work.
Nancy McNally lives at one end of the freeway - and works at the other end.
Nancy drives from Alkimos to Secret Harbour every day, covering approximately 53,000 kilometres over the course of a year.
She estimates she spends around 800 hours in her car per year and spends roughly $7000 on fuel.
According to a survey by the Australian Automobile Association, Nancy's commute isn't unusual.
A single car trip from Wellard south of Perth to the city takes 90 minutes.
From Baldivis, the trip takes 88 minutes; from Butler, 68; and from Ellenbrook - the longest from the eastern suburbs - 52 minutes.
As more outer suburbs are built, Perth's congestion is tipped to get worse.
If nothing changes, Will Golsby from the RAC predicts it will cost $16billion per year in lost productivity.
By 2031, it's estimated that seven of the 10 most congested roads in Australia will be in Perth.
The McGowan government is banking on its Metronet plan to ease the pain, along with other road projects.
"A lot of what we're doing is not only looking at the freeways, but also the East/West connection," Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
