Picture of 'priceless' parking solution in North Fremantle shared online

A picture of a car parking bay overlapping onto the footpath in North Fremantle has raised eyebrows and sparked debate online.

In the image the red vehicle has its wheels up on the pathway but it remains inside the bay itself, reportedly in attempt to ensure cars can pass down the narrow roadway while others can stop and park simultaneously.

Facebook user Maggie Petrie shared the picture, which shows cars parked on either side of the small street, on Facebook on Friday with the caption: "Oh Freo...only you".

One of the social media users said the image showing the parking solution was "PRICELESS!!!".

Another wrote: "OMG please tell me this is a joke??"

Ms Petrie responded to her friends:"Yep. It's real. It's a really narrow street near Mojo's and there's street parking both sides but I guess to keep the traffic flow they've put the parking half on the footpath."

7 News Online has reached out to the City of Fremantle and made an attempt to contact Ms Petrie for further comment.

A council spokesperson told The West Australian: “In response to community feedback and the narrow nature of the street in North Fremantle, the City has implemented a different style of line marking to provide more space for moving traffic.

"This shared approach is commonly used in Europe and will be considered in future street upgrades to accommodate all road users."
