'It was circling me': Kitesurfer's close encounter with lurking shark revealed in drone video

A French blogger and kitesurfer has revealed she dashed from the surf in Western Australia after discovering she had been surfing right above one of the sea’s most famous predators.

Isabelle Fabre and her camera operator Cyril caught the close encounter on drone footage, showing the shadow of a great white shark lurking frighteningly close to her board.

“Then I thought it was a dolphin trick, you know when they spring out just in front of you. But no, it was circling me,” she said.

“When it passed beneath me, I realised it was a huge great white shark.”

Ms Fabre encountered the animal at Western Australia’s Great Southern last Sunday, January 8.

She said it was her first run in with a shark and she was convinced she was “done” as she was “struggling to get my ass out of the water”.

But the close call is not likely to put the 30-year-old off kite surfing, even if she says she was shaking as she returned to shore and warned other swimmers.
